Following on from the projected and planned works we announced towards the end of last year, we will be starting the first round of router upgrades and network enhancements this weekend.
Friday evening will see 2 new routers be installed in tandem with the existing infrastructure and we will start to migrate services across onto the new platform.
The new routers are capable of routing 20-30 times as much traffic (multiple 10 Gigabit links) as the older routers and many more packets per second than the older Cisco/Juniper routers which are in place today.
We do not anticipate any actual outages while we introduce the new hardware to the network although there may be abnormal routing for a brief period of time as routes re-converge following the addition of the additional routers.
Maintenance will commence at 23:30 and we anticipate it will complete before 04:30 Saturday morning.
