Backbone Maintenance

AT RISK NOTIFICATION:: London Ring.
This at risk period is not expected to be service affecting.

At risk Window Commences: 2007-02-22 00:00:00 GMT (UTC + 0)
At risk Window Concludes: 2007-02-22 02:00:00 GMT (UTC + 0)

Reason for notification:
To increase port capacity to meet customer demand by addition of
two 2x10G backbone switches at one of our core sites.

Sites covered by this risk notification:
Telecity Redbus HEX67

Further amplification:

Our operations team needs to insert two additional switches into the redundant ring at London-1 (HEX) to meet continued strong demand for its services.

This will involve the ring being partitioned once.

Whilst the ring is not complete traffic will flow along the redundant path of the ring and we will be relying on that redundancy for the period that the ring is incomplete.

Therefore during this time traffic will be at risk from an unplanned fibre break should one occur in addition to the intentional break to perform this maintenance.

Whilst the ring is incomplete new devices will then be inserted into the ring and the protective EAPS topology.

This at risk period is not expected to exceed 15 minutes within the window above.

The ring’s redundancy will be restored by re-enabling the TCX-HEX fibre link.

The ring will then be closely monitored by engineers over the coming hours.

Should you have any questions please contact support@fido.net as normal.

An all clear notification reporting results of maintenance will be issued on conclusion.

We apologise for the short notice given for this at risk notification.

Contingency plan:

Should the above maintenance fail to be successful as planned then the network topology will be returned to its prior state.
