Following reports of packet loss and abnormal ping responses from certain parts of our network, we began investigating a switch configuration error earlier today.
Whilst reconfiguring the switch to overcome the reported errors a change to the spanning tree configuration caused a number of routing anomalies which started at roughly 13:37.
We worked quickly to resolve these issues, however a number of other small changes were required and customers in both our London-1 and London-2 facilities were affected briefly while switches were reconfigured and routes re-converged.
On behalf of FidoNet I would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused during this emergency maintenance. We believe the problem is now resolved, but will be keeping a close eye on things over the next 24 hours in case the problems resurface.
We believe these issues were cleared by 14:15 at the latest, and most customers would have only noticed a brief 2-3 minute outage – although a small number of customers may have been affected for up to 30 minutes if they were connected to the switch which initially caused these problems.
