CERT have published an advisory in relation to a vulnerability in the ntpd daemon
https://ics-cert.us-cert.gov/advisories/ICSA-14-353-01A
As a precaution, we have already forced an update on customer routers which we manage where a new firmware update is already available.
We are also planning on updating our core routers over the next few days, between midnight and 4am during which time customers connected to those core or edge routers may notice a brief disconnection (under 2 minutes each time)
We take security extremely seriously here at FidoNet and feel it necessary to implement these updates as promptly as possible.
Customer servers should have already been updated – although we do advise you to check and execute “yum update” or “apt-get update” on your server to make sure.
Wishing you all a Merry Xmas!
Team Fido
