LINX Maintenance

Advanced notice that LINX will be performing maintenance between 00:00 and 06:00 on June 11th which may result in problems connecting to peers over the LINX Juniper LAN

It is hoped that the outage as a result of this maintenance is kept to a minimum and from our side will be limited to a 5 minute window between 00:00 and 01:00 however other peers may take longer to perform the maintenance required on their part to comply with the LINX maintenance requirements.

Background

LINX is a London Internet Exchange – a major UK peering point where all of the major UK ISPs interconnect. LINX has been growing rapidly and has run out of IP address space on their peering LAN. In order to deal with this issue they have requested that all peers renumber their interfaces on the LINX Juniper LAN to enable the continued growth of the LINX peering network.

During the maintenance peers will need to shut down their sessions, renumber and restart sessions. As such there will be a brief routing “flap” where traffic may appear to black hole as routes re-converge.
