Fido.Net Status Updates

Web Server IP Address Change

The following has been sent to affected customers following the failure of one of our dedicated virtual servers. If your web site is no longer responding and you manage your own DNS then most likely it is as a result of this emergency maintenance:

Following on from our recent notification of upgrades, which were originally scheduled for this weekend, it became necessary to migrate your web hosting to the new server ahead of schedule overnight.

This was as a result of a disk failure on the old host server. No data was lost, however we took the view to move you immediately rather than to wait another 48 hours and risk a total failure.

Our records show that you manage your own DNS for your domain(s) and as such whilst we have automatically updated the DNS we host, your current subscription may still point to the old and now defunct server.

So what to do?

You have two options.

The preferred option is to update your name servers and point them at our redundant / resilient DNS cluster – you can then manage your DNS through the Plesk control panel – a simple to use web interface.

Our name servers are

ns0.server.fido.net – 84.246.192.53
ns1.server.fido.net – 84.246.193.53
ns2.server.fido.net – 194.70.36.53
ns4.server.fido.net – 64.34.20.53

Alternatively, option 2 is to update the DNS manually for your hosting. The new IP address is 93.188.180.50

Owing to the nature of the move, and the major upgrade in hardware / etc it is not possible to keep the old IP address

The old server is now turned off, so you will need to update your DNS before your web site becomes visible again.

Please accept our apologies for the short notice in relation to this move, which was performed as emergency maintenance to overcome a failed disk and to prevent critical data loss
