Fido.Net Status Updates

Emergency Maintenance

Following yesterdays outage we have performed a full audit of our Virtuozzo server platform inspecting for signs of imminent failure.

vpsh2 uses the same model of disks as vpsh3 and at least one of those disks is exhibiting a similar behaviour to the disks which failed on Thursday. As a precaution we are moving customer sites / VPS’s from vpsh2 onto spare capacity on both vpsh1 and vpsh6 however this may temporarily have an adverse affect on performance of these servers whilst the migration takes place.

We feel slower / lower than usual performance is considerably better than no performance, and are taking this action with immediate effect.

FidoNet apologise to customers affected by this maintenance and the earlier outage, and would like to assure you that we are taking every step to mitigate any further problems.

New servers with Seagate drives are on order and should be with us early next week. As soon as these have been soak tested we will move all sites across onto these new servers and perform a full rebuild of the old platforms
