Safe mode is a security feature designed to ensure that your site and our servers do not become compromised. It is a method of protecting access to variables and “secure data” within your PHP scripts.
As of Plesk 8 you are now able to control the safe_mode setting on a per domain / web site basis.
As such, the default behaviour on all of our Plesk 8 servers (which will become all web servers shortly) is that safe_mode is turned on.
Should your code require safe_mode to be turned off, and you are not able to rectify this by fixing your code for whatever reason, then you should log into your Plesk control panel and under Setup change the PHP -> Safe_mode setting from “On” to “Off”.
This will ensure that your web sites continue to function as normal.
So far the following servers have been updated to Plesk 8 as of this morning
psa01
psa02
psa03
psa04
psa05
Other servers will be updated on a weekly basis until they are all running the latest versions of Plesk, which should be before the end of July 2006.
